Include Low Cholesterol Food On Your
Shopping List
There's no reason to wait until you have high cholesterol
before you begin buying low cholesterol food
at the grocery store.
Why wait until you are at risk before you begin taking steps
necessary to reduce your chance of heart disease of high blood
pressure? But buying the right foods is only step one. You
actually have to eat the food as well. It doesn't do you any
good to have boneless and skinless chicken breast in the
refrigerator while you go out for a double cheeseburger and
fries. I know that sounds painfully obvious, but you'd be
surprised at how many people neglect this crucial step to start
lowering the cholesterol that has built up in their body.
Almost all the sources you refer to will tell you the same
thing. If you want to reduce your cholesterol score, you need
to begin by cutting out foods that are high in fat and other
things that cause cholesterol. That means switching you diet to
include more things like poultry, fish and other low
cholesterol food. If chicken is on your list (and it should be
if you eat meat), then be sure to get skinless chicken, or be
prepared to spend some time removing the skin before cooking.
Leaving the high fat skin on tends to defeat the purpose
here.
But don't spend all your time at the grocery store in the
meat section when shopping for low cholesterol food. Yes you
need to check out the different types of fish and poultry, but
don't neglect to stock up on the delicious fruits and
vegetables. Stay away from the nuts however. These typically
are high in fats and oils.
In fact when shopping for low cholesterol food you probably
want to scratch anything high in saturated fats off your list.
This includes oils and butters. Pass by the butter and grease,
and replace them with margarine and olive oil.
It really isn't that hard to live with a low cholesterol
diet. Just make sure you buy the right foods, and eat those
foods after you purchase them.
